January 21 - February 1

"Be a bush if you can't be a tree. If you can't be a highway, be a trail. If you can't be a sun, be a star. For it isn't by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are."
                                                                - Martin Luther King Jr.

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

I hope that 2019 if off to a great start for all of you!!!  We are definitely off to a great year and, as you are probably noticing, the students are growing quickly (both academically and physically)!  I am in awe on how hard many of our students are working and, even more so, how much enjoyment they are finding in their successes!!!  Keep celebrating the successes of your children...it's paying off!!!

We had some excitement at Cleveland as we held our first annual Eagle of the Month Assembly!!! Several students from each class were chosen to be recognized for their S.O.A.R.ing behavior during the month of December (and beginning of January).  The decision was very tough for the staff members to choose as many of the students were very deserving!  The assemblies will continue each month as we want to celebrate positive behavior at Cleveland!

In addition, we have been handing out Eagle Bucks to students that have are "caught S.O.A.R.ing"!  These are blue tickets that they will turn in for a chance to win a small prize (drawing will be each Friday, starting on 1/25)!  The students are really working hard to earn these tickets and are very excited for their positive behavior to be recognized!

I want to continue to thank those of you that continue to have conversations with your children about what they are learning in school!  These conversations help the students retain the information as it moves from them "knowing" to them being able to "teach" or "tell" about it.  Together we will help our Eagles fly higher than they can even imagine!

Are you, or know someone that is, interested in helping out around Cleveland?  We are looking for volunteers to help out directing traffic during arrival/dismissal times, assisting with recess duty, morning check-in, or many other jobs that we can find.  Please let me know if you are interested...thanks!!!

Lastly, Kindergarten registration begins on February 1, 2018!!!  Please share this information with any neighbors that may have children that are ready to begin their academic careers!!!  I can't think of a better place to do it other than Cleveland (but I am a little bias)!!!!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Stay Awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!!!!

Winter Outside Recess:

We are noticing that students are bringing the necessary cold-weather gear from home but they are not wearing it for the duration of recess. Please continue to have some conversations with your students about keeping on their gear while they are outside (we will be diligent here reminding them as well). Also, for the younger grades, continue to practice putting on (and removing) their gear by themselves. Thank you!!!!

January 7 - 18

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

Welcome to the New Year!!!

I hope that everyone had a chance to spend some quality time creating memories with your children!  The students were all smiling through their sleepy little eyes this morning as they walked in the door.  Thank you for all your work over the break keeping their minds busy and focused on the skills they have been learning in school!!!

We finished up our second round of I-Ready testing before the break and the progress that we have made thus far is fantastic! We will continue to work to identify the individual needs of each student as we analyze the data (as well as the data within the classroom) that these tests provide for us.  Congratulations to the entire community on their hard work each day as we strive to be the best Eagles we can be!!!

Are you, or know someone that is, interested in helping out around Cleveland?  We are looking for volunteers to help out directing traffic during arrival/dismissal times, assisting with recess duty, morning check-in, or many other jobs that we can find.  Please let me know if you are interested...thanks!!!

Winter Outside Recess:

Now that the weather is changing, it is very important that your child is dressed appropriately for recess. Please remember that when it snows, your child must have both winter boots, snow pants, and gloves to be able to play in the snow. They will be able to go outside if they don't have those items, but the will have to play on the blacktop. We don't call home for wet clothes from recess, so this will ensure that your child stays dry.
