May 24 - June 7

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit."  - Aristotle

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

I want to start off by sending out a great big "Thank you" to all of you (and your families) that have served or are serving in any of our armed forces for our great country.  I am astonished to hear the humility in a veteran's voice when I thank them for their service;  the most common response is, "it was my pleasure".  The men and women that have chosen this path in life are truly special as they have made the conscious decision to place their country first.  Once again, on behalf of our entire Eagle community, I want to say "Thank you" for all you do and have done!

June is upon us and, before you know it, a new year of learning will be here!  I can't express enough how important it is to formulate a plan with your child(ren) now for the summer.  The plan should include, obviously, fun things to do as well as some type of reading.  Summer reading loss will happen when students spend the summer months without a book in their hands (or any type of text).  Technology can assist with this as well as long as it is geared towards reading; however, I would encourage you to set limits on the screen time for your children.  The goal is to make our students achieve greatness and together we will make it happen!!!

There are many fun activities that are happening around Cleveland in the upcoming weeks and they will be down below.  I have heard how wonderful these events are and I am excited to be a part of it!

Thank you again for your partnership and all you do in support of each of our learners!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Stay Awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!!!!

Community Connections

I want to thank, on behalf of our entire Eagle Community, the following community members that have donated their time and money to make Cleveland even more special than it is!!!!

Thank you to Mile City Church (and several of Eagle Families) for spending time making Cleveland beautiful! They weeded and sread out almost 20 yard of mulch!!!

I had the pleasure of meeting several members of the Bob's Discount Furniture Store (next to Home Depot on Middlebelt) last week as they presented Cleveland with a check for $2500!!! The store manager, Fred Rumberger, gave me the background of the company and let me know that this random act of kindness is a
way that their company likes to give back to the communities that have welcomed them in. I want to thank Bob's furniture, on behalf of the entire Cleveland Community, for their generosity and thoughtfulness!!!!

The last "Thank you" goes out to our wonderful PTA who have worked (and continue to work) so hard at planning so many wonderful event that have happened throughout the school year! These events are a huge reason why our Cleveland community is the best around!!!!!

"Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that that are always watching you."  - Robert Fulghum

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

April Showers have definitely held true and, hopefully, we will have plenty of May flowers as a result!!!  Spring signifies, for many students, that summer will soon be here and then the summer activities are soon to follow.  The excitement for such activities often cause students to lose focus on school expectations for the remainder of the school year.  Please help them stay focused by continuing to talk to them about the different things that they are learning in school.

Students, though they won't admit it, love (and need) routines that they can count on.  The summer is approaching fast and now is a great time to begin to plan on what their summer routines will be.  The most successful routines that you can make are ones that include the child in the planning; they will be more likely to buy into this if they are part of the process.  The routines don't have to resemble those of the school year; though the should involve doing things that involve them thinking, solving problems, reading, math and definitely some play.

I will be sharing a section in the Eagle's Nest that includes different activities that are available to you and your family during the summer months...start that planning.  Please let me know if you come across anything that you think would be good for other families to do as well.  We are all in this together and, with the support of each other, we will help prevent summer learning loss.

Lastly, we have noticed that students are staying after school to play on the play structures.  Students need to be supervised by a parent/guardian during this time in efforts to maintain a safe dismissal.  Students will not be permitted to stay after school, unless supervised, to play at Cleveland.  Thanks for you understanding and support with this matter!

Thank you again for your partnership and all you do in support of each of our learners!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Teacher Appreciation Week!!!!

The week of May 6 is Teacher Appreciation Week and we are so fortunate to have the talented staff that we do at Cleveland! However, I urge you to think back to teacher that really made a difference in your life and, if possible, send them a little note letting them know. I have had the pleasure of being in education, officially, for 22 years and I can tell you that there is nothing like hearing from a former student. So, send that email, letter, or phone call to that someone who stood out to you!
