"Behind every young child who believes in himself is a parent who believed first."  - Matthew Jacobson

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

Greetings to all of our wonderful Eagle Families!!!!  I want to thank all of you for all of the hard work you have done thus far in creating routines at home!!!  It is clear that our students are well-rested and ready to learn each day!!!

We, as you know, want to maximize every minute of learning time while our students are with us.  Every minute counts and this is why I am requesting that parents/guardians come in to sign your child in if you are running late.  This will allow the students to head to class while you take care of signing them in (please know their lunch choice).  Thank you so much for your cooperation with this!!!

The PTA Walk-A-Thon is currently accepting donations!  This fundraiser was very successful last year because of the passion that our community has for providing our children with the best possible elementary school experience possible!  Thank you for you support of this event!!!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Stay Awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!!!!

Notes for the Week:

Eagle of the Month is Back!!! We want to recognize students for their SOARing behavior throughout the school year and we do this in form of a monthly assembly.  Any staff member has the ability to nominate students (2) from each class to receive this recognition.  The students will be selected based on their ability to model positive character traits and work ethic that models what it means to be a SOARing Eagle!  Eagles soar high, but our Eagles SOAR higher!

Running Late:  Parents/Guardians are required to come into the building to sign their students in after 8:55 am; this will allow students to begin their academic day sooner.  Thank you for you cooperation!!!

Recess Notes:
  • Our staffing during unstructured times times of the day (Bus Duty, Lunch and Recess) is very tight. As a school, we can only have adult supervision in a limited number of areas around our school at any given time of the day. Due to these limits, we will not be able to honor parent requests for students to stay indoors during recess. If your child has a medical concern, we will honor a note written by a doctor.
  • Our recess policy is that we will go outside as often as possible. Rain and temperatures less than 15 degrees will keep us indoors. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and the activities that they like to do while playing outside.

Health/Safety:

  • There are no pets allowed on any LPS property during school hours. Even the friendliest, smallest, cutest, most harmless pets need to stay home.
  • Flip-flop shoes are not recommended for school. We have already seen several accidents during recess/physical education this year.
  • Visitors should always stop in the office to check in and get a Visitor's Badge prior to entering any area of the school.
  • Fever or vomiting students should remain out of school until they are symptom free for 24 hours.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit."  - Aristotle

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

It's a great day to be an Eagle!  The official first full week of school in in the books and the students are establishing routines throughout the day.  There is not a greater joy than seeing a kiddo learning new things!  The smiles around the school are contagious and we are loving each and every one of our little Eagles!!!!

Thank you for establishing routines for your children at home!!!  These routines can easily fall by the wayside as we get into full swing, but with determination, grit, and patience, it will eventually get easier.  The routines will turn into habits and this will result in greatness!!!  Keep it up...you are doing great!!!  The following link will give you some suggestions:  20 Ways That You Can Help Your Child At Home

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit."  - Aristotle

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

Week one is in the books and it has been an amazing start to what promises to be a great year!  We are busy learning all the the appropriate ways that the students can be successful SOARing Eagles!

I want to thank all of you for an awesome drop-off/arrival transition!!!  Also, thank you for coming in to sign your students in on those morning that don't run so smoothly.  We appreciate all of your effort and hard work!!!

I am going to keep this week's note short as I want to announce something very exciting...we have added a 1st grade class to Cleveland for the 2019-20 school year!!! This is very exciting news as we have worked closely with the district in efforts to maintain and/or reduce class size.  Mrs. Jennifer Gray will be our new Eagle staff member in first grade!  We are fortunate to have someone like her join our already passionate staff!!!!  The families that are affected have been notified and there will be a transition period next week in preparation for the new class to being on September 16.

Please remember that, though it's the weekend, routines will be important for your students to start their week off successfully!

This year will be the best one yet!!!!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Stay Awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!!!!

Beginning of the Year Reminders:

I have had many opportunities in my career, as and educator and a coach, to work with great people/families. I have learned some valuable lessons along the way from each one of my positions that I have held. The top lessons that I have learned are: 1.) The "we" is more powerful than the "me"; 2.) successful organizations put their "players" in a position to "win".

I am looking forward to putting our students in the best possible position to "win" this school year. The partnership that we hold is an integral part of their success. The relationship that you have with your child's teacher and the conversations that you have with your child will help maximize your child's success this school year. We, together, will put our children in the best position to "win" this year as they SOAR to incredible heights!
