April 10 - April 26

"Success isn't about how much money you make. It's about the difference you make in people's lives."  - Michelle Obama

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

Welcome back to the school!!!  Springtime is a wonderful time of year as flowers begin to bloom, the buds on the trees are prepping for the wonderful summer foliage, and the grass is beginning to turn green (...and I would never forget to mention the great start that the Detroit Tigers are off too)!  Our students, much like the wonderful new beginnings that indicate spring is near, are beginning to bloom!  Their hard work is paying off as they are demonstrating some amazing things academically and socially around the school!  I couldn't be any more proud of every member of our amazing community as we all have taken a part in their successes!!!

Spring break is a tricky time of year because it is easy to get in that "summer break mode" for everyone.  However, this is time of year that the pace will pick up in the classroom and the students will be expected to work just as hard as they to transition to the next grade level.  This is also a great time for you to contact your child's teacher to discuss items that you could do over the summer to prevent "summer learning loss".  There are many things out there that families can do to keep their minds active and have a ton of fun in the process!!!!

The transition to a new grade level and into a new learning community is a process that we take very seriously each year.  The goal for this process is to place each student into a new community of learners that will maximize the learning potential.  The classroom teachers will work with our support staff (and myself) to ensure the success of this process.  I have full confidence that this process will be a success for everyone involved!  Requests for specific teachers will not be accepted; however, I am more than happy to talk to you regarding your child's individual learning style, academic needs, and/or social-emotional needs are as we go through the process.  Thank you for trusting us through this process and understanding that we indeed do value "every child every day" here!!

We have many exciting events planned for the springtime!!! Please follow along through the Eagle's Nest and/or classroom newsletters so you can have fun along with us!!!!

Lastly, I am so appreciative of all the efforts of each member of our community that went into such an incredible Reading Night Celebration!  It was so nice to see all the families and staff enjoying some time with books throughout the school!!! I know that it isn't always easy to come back up to the school after a long day, but the benefits that times like these have are incredible!

Thank you again for your partnership and all you do in support of each of our learners!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Stay Awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!!!!

Kindergarten registration is here!!!  Please share this information with any neighbors that may have children that are ready to begin their academic careers!!!  I can't think of a better place to do it other than Cleveland (but I am a little bias)!!!!

M-Step Testing

The 3rd and 4th graders at Cleveland will be participating in the M-Step test between the dates of April 29 and May 24, 2019. The students will be tested in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts. M-STEP is an untimed, online assessment, students will take using Chromebooks or computers in their school’s computer lab.

Pennies for Patients

Last Monday our students attended an assembly presented by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a kick-off to a fundraising effort that we will be doing in partnership with them. Pennies for Patients will take place within each classroom as students will bring in change to put in their classroom's collection box.
