October 29 - November 2

“Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end." - Scott Adams

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

I would like to start off by thanking all of the wonderful PTA volunteers for all the hard work that was put in for Cleveland's Halloween Activity Night!  The night was an overwhelming success and it so incredible to see all the families have a chance and enjoy their time at Cleveland!  Also, thank you to the all of you who took the time to decorate your trunks...they looked awesome!!  Halloween week is upon us and some of you may carry on with traditions of Trick or Treating...please be careful and be sure to monitor what your children are bringing home (especially for the treats you may like 😉).  Lastly, please monitor what "snacks" they are bringing to school (pretty please 😊).

The staff at Cleveland works diligently at identifying the strengths and challenges for each child as we strive to meet the needs of every child every day.  Intervention blocks are a way for us to focus on the individual needs of the students.  The staff (teachers and support staff) focus one hour per day, 5 days per week, on delivering targeted instruction based on the individual needs of each student.  The interventions that are offered during this time are skills that will help students have more success this school year and beyond.  The students, during this time, will not be missing any "new content" as each of the students will be focused on their specific skill(s).  Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher to find out what they are working on during this time and to seek out things that you can do at home to support this effort.

Living the Eagle way of life!  We want our students to be successful in all facets of their lives and, with your partnership, we will!  We are going to begin focusing on "Kindness" for the month of November and how we can demonstrate this in all the different areas of our lives (school, home, at a playground, while shopping, etc.).  We feel it is important to educate the whole child, academically and social/emotionally, and it is our goal to create opportunities.  Please take advantage of any moments to highlight situations that kindness has been demonstrated or could of been demonstrated; these little conversations can make a huge difference!

Have a great week!!!

Congratulations to Ms. Bone!!!!! WNIC Teacher of the week!!!!!

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

I think that Fall is here to stay and, fingers crossed, will be here for a while!  Thank you to those of you that were able to come and spend some time with our teachers to discuss the strengths and challenges of your child(ren)!  I was able to meet many of you and, again, overwhelmed with the support and kind words that you shared with me regarding Cleveland!  Please, if you didn't have a chance to meet with your child's teacher, feel free to reach out and meet in the next couple weeks.

Mentor Groups have been a tradition at Cleveland in the past and, though it may be modified a little, we are going to begin to hold these again.  This is a time for students to connect with an adult in the building, other than their classroom teacher, to talk about character traits and/or any other topics that help increase their success as a person and student.  The meetings will take place on the 1st Tuesday of each month; however, since classes will not be in session on November 6, our first session will be on November 13.

Thursday night is a very exciting time as the PTA is sponsoring a Halloween Activity Night at Cleveland!    The night is going to be filled with fun times and a way to connect with one another; these types of events are what make a school into a learning community!  This is an event for Cleveland students and their families only. Also, all children have to be accompanied by an adult. Thank you PTA!

Lastly, communication is a crucial part to success.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, compliments (we love these 😊), and/or concerns.

I am wishing you a wonderful weekend and an even better week to come...may your team win!

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders:

Please remember that the curb drop-off area is for families to drop off their child(ren) and continue on with their day. Please utilize the parking areas if you choose to walk your child(ren) up to the designated entry/exit doors. We are aware that this may be an slight inconvenience, however, it is a small price to pay for the safety of our children.

Early dismissal is sometimes unavoidable and we completely understand that. However, in efforts to maximize learning, we will notify the classroom teacher (feel free to email the teacher as well) of the plan and, when you arrive, we will have your student come to the office. Thank you for your understanding!

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

I want to start off by thanking all of the members of the Cleveland Community for such a warm welcome! The amount of support that I have received from the students, staff, and community has been overwhelming and I couldn't be prouder to be a part of the Cleveland Eagle family!!!!

The Walk-A-Thon is just one example of how wonderful and supportive this community is of our school. The $12,000 goal was shattered by almost $4000 due to the overwhelming generosity of our community!!! This money will go directly into supporting our students in form of classroom materials, interactive computer programs, fun evening events, etc. Please, if you have done it yet, consider joining the PTA (it doesn't mean you have to plan any events 😊; unless you want too).

I am looking forward to partnering with each one the members of our community as we strive to make the students' educational experience one that last a lifetime!

Parent Teacher Conferences:

The exciting time is here that we have a chance to share with you some of the strengths and challenges of your students up to this point in the year. The success of our students depend on our partnership!!! Please click on the appropriate link to sign up for a time to meet your child's teacher:

THIRD GRADE READING BILL

Are you familiar with the third grade-reading bill?  This is sometimes referred to as Public Act 306 or House Bill No. 4822.  At parent-teacher conferences, you will receive a copy of your child's fall assessment results.  The focus of parent-teacher conferences won't be on the report card, which comes home in December, but rather your child's current progress academically and socially.  To address this fall data, every classroom will have a designated period of each day devoted to providing additional supports to struggling learners and enrichment/extension activities for children who are scoring at or above grade level on their assessments.  We will also count on you for a home plan to help your child be successful with their grade level expectations.  This Third Grade Reading link contains many informational documents from Wayne County RESAwhich highlights the third grade-reading bill and the importance of early literacy.  Thank you for being an active partner in your child's education!

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders:

Thank you for following the loop around to drop off your child(ren) at the appropriate drop-off area!!! Safety is our #1 priority and, as you know, it can get pretty congested out there. The school year is moving pretty quickly and, by now, students are so incredibly independent during arrival and dismissal that they almost forget to give their family members that hug or wave goodbye! Please stop in to the office, should you need to come in for any reason, to sign in and get a visitor badge.

PTA Updates:
  • Walk-a-Thon (80's...wow!)
    • Please save Thursday, October 11th at 3:05 for the annual PTA sponsored “Walk-a-Thon”. The PTA is planning an “80’s Themed” event. The FHS Cheer and Pom team will becoming to Cleveland to cheer on the walkers along with the FHS Marching Band. The walk will run from approximately 3:05-3:35. First grade will be planning an alternate recess time for that day.
  • Next Meeting:  November 7, 2018 @ 6 PM in the LMC

Have a great Week!!!!!!
