February 4 - February 15

"Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it's holy ground. There's no greater investment."
                                                                - Stephen Covey

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

Wow! Mother Nature sure has shown her face over the past week!  I hope that each of you have made it through this harsh cold weather and possibly had some quality time spent with your children!

I have to say that I am very amused at each and every creative videos that schools/districts have done to announce a school closing!  These people are very talented (and must get out of bed very early) and I am confident that the phone call from the district will be much more pleasant to your ears than my singing voice!!!

The excitement around the building continued as students were selected to receive a special award for having their S.O.A.R. Buck pulled from a bucket!!!  The students will take the S.O.A.R. Bucks that they earn for being awesome, throughout the day, and turn them into a bucket in the office.  We will select 5 winners, per grade level, to receive a coupon for the snack bar during lunchtime!!!  The S.O.A.R. Bucks will be returned (of course with a "Keep SOARing Eagles" stamp) to all the students so they can bring them home and brag about themselves a little bit to you!!! The students are really responding as many of them are caught off-guard when a staff member will hand them a S.O.A.R. Buck!

The pace of the school year is about to pick up a little bit as we prepare the students to move along on their educational journey.  Please continue to ask your students open-ended questions (10 Questions to Ask Your Child About His Day at School) about what they are learning in school.  The students are working so hard and would love the opportunity to show off what they have learned (they just need a little encouragement)!!!

Please be sure to check your child's backpack as we will be sending home Reading Proficiency Reports on Wednesday February 6.  We continually assess and track the progress of each student throughout the year.  These reports can provide you with the most up-to-date level of  your child's literacy proficiency.  Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher to see how you can help increase this valuable skill while your child is at home.  The strategies that the teaching staff can give you will give you an opportunity to practice as we approach the summertime and students will often have their skill slightly decline.

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

Stay Awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!!!!
