October 14-25

"Your words sow seeds in your children's hearts. From those seeds spring up either confidence or uncertainty, dignity or dishonor, worth or worthlessness.  Your words create the beginning of their life stories, and they will carry this story with them always."  - Rebecca Eanes

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

I can't tell you enough about how lucky I am to be a part of this wonderful community!!!  The support that we have from our community is outstanding and an example of this is the wonderful support from our Walk-A-Thon!!!  We raised over $14,000 for our PTA and had a great time along the way!

The exciting time is coming this month....Parent Teacher Conferences!!!! This is a wonderful time for our team (home and school) to get together to talk about the successes and challenges of our children.  The other important piece of the conference is when parents/guardians work with the teacher to come up with a plan for success.  Please begin to think about any concerns and/or questions that you may have prior to the conference (possibly email to the teacher them before the conference); this will help with the efficiency of the meeting.

The teachers will with you how they are having you sign-up for a time to meet.

Random Spirit Day:  Monday, October 11, we will be having a Detroit Lion's Day!! Wear your Lion's gear or blue and/or silver!!! (I feel that we need to do this now, before....well, you Lion's fans know)

Brooks Gibb's is coming to present "Raise them Strong"!!!!!  We are fortunate to be able to welcome Brooks Gibb's on November 4, 2019 to speak with our families about empowering our children to advocate for themselves with they encounter a bully!

Mr. Gibb's will be at the Franklin Performing Art's Center on November 4, 2019 at 6 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm).  Seats are limited to this event and, as a result, we will be sending out a form that will allow you to RSVP.  The video above is an example of the work that Mr. Gibb's does with kids.  The following link will take you to learn more information about him:  https://www.brooksgibbs.com/

Eagle of the Month is Back!!! We celebrated many of our Eagles this past week and look forward to celebrating more next month!!!!  The theme for this month is "Responsibility"; take some time to talk with your children about what this looks like at home and at school.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Thank you all for the generous donations to our PTA!!!!  We raised over $14,000 for this event and were able to have some fun along the way!  Students will receive their prizes throughout next week as the inventory is counted and distributed!

Running Late:  Parents/Guardians are required to come into the building to sign their students in after 8:55 am; this will allow students to begin their academic day sooner.  Thank you for you cooperation!!!

Recess Notes:
  • Our staffing during unstructured times times of the day (Bus Duty, Lunch and Recess) is very tight. As a school, we can only have adult supervision in a limited number of areas around our school at any given time of the day. Due to these limits, we will not be able to honor parent requests for students to stay indoors during recess. If your child has a medical concern, we will honor a note written by a doctor.
  • Our recess policy is that we will go outside as often as possible. Rain and temperatures less than 15 degrees will keep us indoors. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and the activities that they like to do while playing outside.

Health/Safety:

  • There are no pets allowed on any LPS property during school hours. Even the friendliest, smallest, cutest, most harmless pets need to stay home.
  • Flip-flop shoes are not recommended for school. We have already seen several accidents during recess/physical education this year.
  • Visitors should always stop in the office to check in and get a Visitor's Badge prior to entering any area of the school.
  • Fever or vomiting students should remain out of school until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
